Buying a brand-new car in Spain doesn't necessarily mean spending €20,000 or €30,000 anymore. The market has changed considerably in recent years, with increased competition from Chinese manufacturers helping to push prices down and forcing established brands to offer more affordable options.
There are now several new cars available for less than €15,000, ranging from small city cars to SUVs and larger superminis. Here are the cheapest models currently on the Spanish market, starting with the most affordable.
Fiat Pandina: €11,450
The Fiat Pandina is currently the cheapest new car available in Spain, with prices starting at €11,450. Its entry-level version has a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine producing 65 hp and uses a six-speed manual gearbox.
It also has mild-hybrid technology, giving it an ECO environmental label, which can be particularly useful for drivers living in cities with low-emission zones. Official combined fuel consumption is around 5 litres per 100 km.
MG3: €13,990
The MG3 comes in at number two, offering considerably more power than the Fiat for less than €14,000. Its 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine produces 115 hp, with official fuel consumption of 6.1 litres per 100 km.
Unlike the Pandina, it's a supermini rather than a city car, making it a more practical option for drivers who want something suitable for longer journeys as well as urban driving.
Dacia Sandero: €14,490
The Dacia Sandero has long been one of Spain's favourite choices for buyers looking for value for money, and it remains one of the cheapest new cars available.
The entry-level version has a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine producing 100 hp and comes with a manual gearbox. Fuel consumption is around 5.3 litres per 100 km.
Fiat Grande Panda: €14,590
For buyers who like the idea of the Pandina but want more space, the Fiat Grande Panda provides a larger alternative for just over €14,500.
It has an SUV-style body and a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 100 hp. Official fuel consumption is around 5.2 litres per 100 km.
EVO 3: €14,900
The Italian EVO 3 is a crossover measuring more than four metres in length. Its 1.5-litre petrol engine produces 113 hp and is paired with a five-speed manual gearbox.
Fuel consumption is higher than some of the smaller cars on this list at around 6.7 litres per 100 km, while prices start at €14,900.
MG ZS: €14,990
The MG ZS is another SUV that has become popular with Spanish buyers, helped by its combination of space and a relatively low starting price.
The entry-level version uses a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 106 hp, with a five-speed manual gearbox. Official fuel consumption is around 6.5 litres per 100 km.
Livan X3 Pro: €14,995
The lesser-known Livan X3 Pro is another Chinese-backed model competing aggressively on price. The four-metre SUV uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 103 hp and comes with a five-speed manual gearbox.
Its 7.2 litres per 100 km official fuel consumption is relatively high, but its €14,995 starting price puts it firmly among Spain's cheapest new SUVs.
Škoda Fabia: €15,400
Rounding off the list is the Škoda Fabia at €15,400. It's slightly more expensive than the other models here but offers a well-established brand and a versatile package for both city driving and longer trips.
The entry-level version has an 80-hp 1.0 MPI petrol engine and official fuel consumption of around 5.1 litres per 100 km.
With eight models available for less than €15,500, Spanish motorists looking for a new car on a budget have considerably more choice than they did just a few years ago. The growing presence of Chinese manufacturers is also putting pressure on established brands to compete on price, giving buyers more options at the cheaper end of the market.
