Taxis spread Christmas magic with Murcia's seniors
Thirty taxis escorted by local police helped seniors from four Murcia care homes experience the city's Christmas lights

If you ever needed a reminder of what Murcia is really about, it's this: people coming together to make sure no one misses out on the magic of Christmas. Every year, Taxi Luz brings that spirit to life as local taxi drivers decorate their cars and head out to collect seniors from care homes across the city. For many residents, it’s one of the rare chances to get out, see the Christmas lights, enjoy the atmosphere and be part of the city at this special time of year.

What began as a small act of kindness ten years ago has grown into a lovely Christmas tradition. Around 30 taxis, including eight adapted for passengers with reduced mobility, picked up more than 80 residents from four care homes. Escorted by the local police, the convoy passed by the Grand Christmas Tree at Plaza Circular, along Gran Vía, and through the Barrio del Carmen. For many this trip was their first trip out in weeks.
The taxis themselves were dressed for the occasion, covered in Christmas lights and decorations. What made the whole thing even more special were the people involved, nearly 30 taxi drivers gave up their evening to take part in this special Christmas drive. Even with a few of the residents unable to join due to the current flu outbreak, the turnout was still the strongest since this tradition began.

It’s a small gesture that makes a big difference to people who might otherwise miss the celebrations. By the time the taxis headed back, along with their police escort, the happy faces inside said it all.
