La Serena golf course in Los Alcázares
An interesting challenge for golfers of all levels on the shore of the Mar Menor
Designed by former Ryder Cup star Manuel Piñero and opened to the public in 2006, the par-72 La Serena golf course in Los Alcázares is located on primarily flat ground, the major challenges for players arising from the typical sea breeze coming in over the Mar Menor and the numerous water and desert ground hazards which characterize the layout.
The club also offers a practice range, two practice greens and an approach practice area, as well as changing rooms, a pro shop, a club store, a cafeteria and restaurant and a bar terrace with charming views out over the Mar Menor.
The hardest hole is probably the par-3 third, which from the yellow tees requires a carry of 170 metres over the water to reach the green directly, while the longest is the 11th at 500 metres.
In total, the course measures 6168 metres from the white tees, 5884 metres from the yellow tees, 5279 metres from the blue tees and 4923 metres from the red tees, all of them in the outskirts of Los Alcázares close to the historic watchtower known as the Torre de Rame.
