Experiencing the magnificent Murcia Christmas lights with Raquel Tours

On Thursday December 4, we went to see the Christmas lights in Murcia with Raquel Tours. This should really be described as “Living the Raquel Experience” as that is exactly what this was.
With collection points at Camposol, The Hacienda Del Alamo and La Torre Golf Resort, we arrived in a comfortable coach within 2 minutes’ walk from Murcia City Centre around 6pm, just as the daylight was fading. The lights, as always, are amazing. There is a huge section of artisan market stalls all along the walkway to the Cathedral offering amazing food, wines and gifts. It is a great place to do a bit of Christmas shopping.
The coach was on time; we had great fun as Raquel kept us entertained by speaking only Spanish to us the entire trip but with Jacob on hand to translate if needed. Raquel speaks very clearly and concisely so even if you are a beginner, she is easy to understand. We also had water provided, a small gift and a raffle on the bus. For those who didn’t know their numbers in Spanish, translation was available!Raquel has a partner in the business, Jacob. I cannot remember the last time I met someone who spoke so many languages so fluently. There were plenty of people from Belgium on the bus, not all of whom spoke English, but with Jacob’s skills it was superb. Jacob speaks English, Spanish, Dutch, Italian, French, German and Flemish. He can also “get by” in Macedonian!
Once we were “off the coach” we had an agreed meeting time of 10.30pm and a choice of whether to stay with Raquel and Jacob for a tour of the city (would thoroughly recommend) or potter around and do our own thing.
Raquel and Jacob have a great knowledge of the city and the architecture. The Casino was open, as was the Cathedral, so we managed to get some great photos. We then went to a “Tapeoteca” that served wonderful food with some very “different” dishes. The staff were lovely and friendly but being with Raquel ensured we had wonderful service.There were plenty of lovely people from Belgium, Germany, England etc. and from different golf resorts in the Region of Murcia such as Hacienda del Álamo, La Torre and Camposol. Some of us exchanged phone numbers and we all said what a wonderful and great value for money trip it was at just €25.00 per person.
