Corvera airport hits six million passengers as more new routes are announced
The airport has handled more than 709,000 passengers so far in 2026, with new connections to the Netherlands and UK coming next spring

More than six million passengers have now travelled through Corvera airport since it opened in January 2019, with passenger numbers continuing to rise this year. The airport handled 709,319 passengers between January and August, which was 8.4% more than during the same period last year. And there are already more flights on the horizon, with new routes to Amsterdam and Liverpool due to start next March.
International flights continue to make up most of Corvera's traffic. Of the 706,225 commercial passengers recorded during the first eight months of 2026, 624,220 were travelling to or from destinations outside Spain. That was 7.3% more international passengers than in the same period of 2025. August was another busy month, with 134,007 people using the airport. Passenger numbers were up 5.9% compared with August last year.
The rise in flights and passengers comes as the Region of Murcia is also attracting more visitors from abroad. Almost 950,000 international tourists visited the Region between January and August, up 14.2% from the same period in 2025. They spent €1.25 billion while they were here.
For people travelling from the Region, the airport will have two more options from spring 2027.
Transavia will start flying from Corvera to Amsterdam Schiphol on March 30, with three flights a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. The Netherlands is already proving to be a growing market for Murcia. Some 69,254 Dutch tourists visited the Region during the first eight months of this year, up 24.2% on 2025.
Then, from March 29, easyJet will add a twice-weekly service to Liverpool, operating on Mondays and Fridays. Britain remains Murcia's biggest international tourism market, with 298,642 British visitors arriving between January and August. That was 15.5% more than a year earlier.
Juan Francisco Martínez, director general of the Instituto de Turismo de la Región de Murcia, said reaching six million passengers was "a very significant figure". It pointed to the growth in both the airport and tourism in the Region.
With Amsterdam and Liverpool joining the timetable next spring, Corvera will have even more options for passengers heading to some of its most important European markets.
