Butane cylinder prices drop 5%, bringing welcome relief to Spanish consumers
Price cut brings the cost of a butane gas cylinder down to €16.27 amid fluctuating global markets
Did you know that over 64 million butane and propane gas cylinders are used every year across Spain? These handy cylinders are a vital energy source for many households, especially in places without natural gas supply. And good news for those who rely on them: from this Tuesday, the cost of a butane cylinder goes down by 5%, now priced at just €16.27.This is actually the second time prices have dropped recently, following a revision published officially in the Boletín Oficial del Estado. So what’s behind the price cut? It mainly comes down to a slight drop of 1.6% in the international prices for these fuels. Plus, the euro has gained a bit of strength against the dollar, by about 2.3%. This currency shift helps lighten the impact of rising freight costs, which unfortunately have increased by nearly 15%.
Every two months, the government takes a close look at the costs involved in getting gas cylinders to consumers. They consider everything from the cost of raw materials to shipping fees, and even how the euro is doing against the dollar. Because prices aren’t allowed to swing wildly, changes are capped at 5% each time. If there’s any leftover difference, it’s balanced out in future adjustments, which helps keep prices fair and steady.
It’s interesting to note that although these bottled gas cylinders are widely used across towns and cities where running a natural gas network isn’t practical, overall consumption has been going down. In fact, since 2010, usage has dropped by more than a quarter as people turn to other energy options.
So if you rely on butane for heating, cooking, or other household needs, this slight price drop might just be a bit of bright news in an often unpredictable energy market. Prices can fluctuate with global trends, but these regular reviews help keep things manageable.
