Águilas campaigns for greater e-scooter safety
The Local Police of Águilas encourages young people to use VMPs responsibly and safely
The laws and rules governing the use of electric scooters in Spain are constantly being tightened and adjusted, and after new insurance regulations were introduced nationwide last autumn the Town Hall of Águilas is launching a public awareness campaign to ensure that their use in the municipality is fully legal and as safe as possible.
The campaign set in motion by the Policía Local is aimed mainly at young adults and teenagers but has implications for all those using the streets, as pedestrians can easily be inconvenienced by careless VMP riders, with Councillor José Manuel Gálvez explaining that it is “vital to promote the responsible use” of such vehicles. The main points being reinforced are the obligatory use of safety helmets, the speed limit of 25 km/h, the prohibition of VMPs on pavements and in pedestrian streets and squares and the restriction of one person per scooter.
It is also necessary to have a fully valid insurance policy and a legal registration plate.
Over the next few weeks a series of talks are being held in schools throughout Águilas in order to see that the message gets across!

Oficina de Turismo de Águilas
Águilas boasts 28 kilometres of coastline, with many fine, sandy beaches, sheltered coves and unspoilt natural beaches. It is a great summer favourite with Spanish holidaymakers, so always has a superb programme of concerts and activities throughout the summer, as well as the biggest carnival in the Region of Murcia, 40 days before Semana Santa (Easter.)
Throughout the year it also has a number of museums and historical attractions, a castle with fabulous views overlooking the bay and several other points of interest, all of which make it an good place to visit for days out. Throughout the year the tourist office runs monthly guided tours and the route of the railways, which explores the railway history of the town.
The tourist information office is located in the Plaza de Antonio Cortijos, just a short walk from the sea front and Plaza de España, a cool, shaded space in which to enjoy a coffee.
